Background
Some background notes on HERIAN
- HERIAN is Welsh for “challenge” and it is also the acronym for “heritage in action”.
- It links heritage to regeneration and development (as in the case of the recently designated UNESCO World Heritage site of Blaenafon and the National Waterfront Museum being built at Swansea).
- It is promoting heritage as a catalyst for environmental improvements .
- It is involving local communities in the ownership and management of local heritage throughout the region to ensure that whatever is done is relevant and living .
- Educational links with local schools and colleges are being developed.
- It is enhancing the visitor experience at existing heritage sites.
- It is prioritising current and future heritage proposals with the support of local communities, local authorities and other bodies.
- It aims to create a strong new product image.
HERIAN staff consists of a project director and administration manager and works with a range of consultants including an interpretive advisor and area co-ordinator.
Once we are confident that this product is right for the consumer, we believe it will strengthen the promotional campaigns conducted by HERIANS constituent partners.
