Background

Some background notes on HERIAN

  • HERIAN is Welsh for “challenge” and it is also the acronym for “heritage in action”.
  • It links heritage to regeneration and development (as in the case of the recently designated UNESCO World Heritage site of Blaenafon and the National Waterfront Museum being built at Swansea).
  • It is promoting heritage as a catalyst for environmental improvements .
  • It is involving local communities in the ownership and management of local heritage throughout the region to ensure that whatever is done is relevant and living .
  • Educational links with local schools and colleges are being developed.
  • It is enhancing the visitor experience at existing heritage sites.
  • It is prioritising current and future heritage proposals with the support of local communities, local authorities and other bodies.
  • It aims to create a strong new product image.

HERIAN staff consists of a project director and administration manager and works with a range of consultants including an interpretive advisor and area co-ordinator.

Once we are confident that this product is right for the consumer, we believe it will strengthen the promotional campaigns conducted by HERIANS constituent partners.
