BLAENAVON LANTERN PARADE THURSDAY 6th DECEMBER 2007

This year's Fire Finale is called “IRON DRAGONS” and its climax will be a frenzy of best-ever fireworks to ignite the winter sky above Blaenavon.

"IRON DRAGONS" is the title of the Fire Finale which concludes the Blaenavon Lantern Parade on Thursday 6th December ... so here's the latest news :

- Blaenavon Male Voice Choir and Blaenavon Town Band will now be taking part

- Bang On Samba Band will now be leading the Lantern Parade

- Widelode will be animating the iconic Balance Tower at the Blaenavon Ironworks with architectural projections based on artwork by local children

The Fire Finale will now end with a specially commissioned Dragon Car - a converted banger that even breaths fire !

Thrill to the transformation of the Ironworks using :

Giant Fire Sculptures,

Massive Projections on the Balance Tower,

Twisted Fire Starters : expert festival entertainers

Supersonic Soundtrack – and Special Effects !

Parade starts 6.00 pm, Broad Street Car Park

IT'S BACK ….BLAENAVON LANTERN PARADE AND FIRE FINALE IS BACK !

Come and join Ben and Jude (from Blaenavon Carnival) and all the SWICA team for some festive fun : IT'S FREE !

This year the Free Lantern Workshops will be taking place at Hillside Primary School.

The theme this year will be looking at the role of the Ironmasters in unleashing the Industrial Revolution here in Wales – so watch out for lots of IRON DRAGONS.

We will let you in on Ben and Jude's surprise – they plan to build a giant lantern on wheels depicting the King Iron Dragon : this will lead the Lantern Parade – belching smoke through it's mouth as we process !!

If you have some extra time after building your own individual lantern (to be carried on a bamboo pole provided by SWICA on the day), then please feel free to volunteer to Ben and Jude when you see them at the weekend workshops.

We have included a few extra leaflets for you to pass onto Family and Friends – please do this as we want to guarantee the biggest and best ever lantern parade through Blaenavon to the Ironworks.

Steve Fletcher

P.S : If you would like to see a short film of last year's Lantern Parade and Fire Finale – simply enter “Blaenavon Lanterns” into You Tube on the internet – and see the Ironworks come alive with flames and fireworks
